InterCity (initially Inter-City) was a brand name introduced in 1966 by British Rail for its long distance express passenger services. InterCity services ran on both the East and West Coast routes, the Great Western mainline (which saw the iconic InterCity 125 HSTs introduced in 1976) and Midland mainline in addition to Gatwick Express services and Cross-Country services connecting cities using a combination of main lines.
