LMS 20T Brake Van

LMS D1919/2036/2068 AND BR 1/503 & 1/505

The first break from Midland Railway design practice for brake vans came in 1926, with the introduction of guard’s lookouts (duckets), something that had appeared on other regions' designs and it was probably pressure from these companies that led to the change. As freight trains grew in length and speed, there was a need to increase the riding ability of the vehicles and this was achieved by increasing the wheelbase of the vehicles, first to 14’, then to 16’.
