Adams Radial - First Running Sample

Adams Radial - First Running Sample

It’s been a very exciting week here at Hornby HQ. With a few of our team members hobbling around the office after their monumental effort completing various sporting activities during The Toy Trust Big Thames Challenge last weekend, projects continued to push forward.

Contained within one of the deliveries destined for the development office was a First Running Sample for one of the most exciting projects for 2015 – none other than the LSWR 4-4-2T Adams Radial 415 Class .

It seems a long time since we first unveiled the Adams Radial in November 2014 at Warley, and since then the Development Team have been hard at work refining what is set to be one of the key Hornby releases for 2015.

The Adams Radial's development began with a trip to the Bluebell Railway to produce a 3D laser scan of the only remaining locomotive, (our blog on the Class 71 explains the fascinating  process behind LIDAR scanning).

Through the use of 3D scanning, reference to the original technical drawings, and help from the Bluebell Railway team we’ve been able to produce extremely highly detailed CAD imagery for the Adams Radial, so it was really interesting to see what the results would be like.

Seeing the Adams Radial on the test track for the first time was really exciting, as this loco has been a labour of love for the whole team,

We realise that there is still some work to be done after testing this particular model, so there will be some more details and updates coming soon. However, we wanted to show you this First Running Sample so that you can see the progress so far.

The three Hornby Adams Radial locomotives are due to arrive in December 2015, and are available to pre-order now.

What do you think of the Adams Radial so far? What else would you like to see covered on The Engine Shed? Let us know on Twitter or Facebook with #HornbyEngineShed, or on The Engine Shed Forum.

Until next time, thanks for reading and happy modelling!
