SPoint switching. On indicator

Hi guys some assistance please.

i now have my baseboard built and in the process of planning my layout.

i have dry run a fiddle yard and sidings with a number of points.

my question is this...

I would like to indicate which point is selected by using say, an led either at the point or by the siding end buffer.

if I was to use for example a 12v led connected across the siding rails then it will illuminate only when the point is switched with 12v applied But the trains would be running. With the transformer zeroed then the lamp wouldn't light.

is there a way of switching the point, and lighting the led without the normal 12v applied?

hope I've explained properly!

thanks in advance

This is a fairly common question.

To help steer you to suitable solutions you need to tell us how you are operating the points. What point motors (if any) etc?

Also use the word "indicator" as the search term in the forum search box and you will get three pages of potential replies. There must be at least one in the list that give a suitable solution.

Hi Chris whatever I type in the search box including "indicators " takes me to a product page. Never seem to have any luck with this search engine! Can you talk me through it please?

Wrong search box.

Use the one highlighted in the green box, not the red box.

Note, if using a Mobile device with a small screen, then the Green highlighted search forum box will probably be found near the bottom of the page, so scroll down to find it. My screen capture below was taken from a Desktop PC.

Everything I know about searching this forum is documented in TIP 10 in my TIPs Page.
