Wobblinwheel
Saw her at the old Norfolk and Western Station yesterday. Petersburg, Virginia. What a piece o' machinery!/media/tinymce_upload/50a1a4c47dc8a3b587a438b8f099c55a.jpg

NWR-Gordon-4
What class locomotive is this? I am generally not in to the American steam locomotives, but I have to say this one looks cracking! It reminds me of the Class 9F. Both look strong, tall, big and mighty! 😆
walkingthedog
It's a Norfolk and Western J class 4-8-4 loco. Makes a 9F look like a shunter.
NWR-Gordon-4
I didn't realise it is a 4-8-4 configuration! That's massive! A Class 9F is shunter, compared to this, then! 😆
walkingthedog
I think its about 109ft long compared to the 9F 66ft.

Wobblinwheel
When my lady-friend saw it in person for the first time, up close, it was the first time I ever heard her say: "Now THAT'S BIG!!" Sad, but true...
Wobblinwheel
Another interesting addition to the train this year. An original "California Zephyr" dome-observation coach from the 1940's. All stainless steel and very luxurious on the inside! Had dome seating, observation seating, multiple bedrooms, and a dining room! Tried to send photo, but wouldn't work? Can't figure it out... walkingthedog
I've been trying to upload pictures for the last hour and a half. It is absolutely hopeless. I either get unable to load to disc or something similar, wrong type of picture, taking too long to upload, file type not allowed. Complete and utter waste of time. Why is this forum so hopeless to use. Don't know why I bother. Talk about user unfriendly.

Wobblinwheel
I've just uploaded two more pics. I think it worked. Of course, has to be "moderated". (In case the train is NAKED)

Nice corrugations along the waist rail. Some serious aluminium bashing with a wheeling machine to get those curved panels right.Rob
