Reddington
Good Afternoon everyone, Today I purchased a Hornby Flying Scotsman the locomotive is used and came with no service information. The locomotive is Tender driven and runs quietly and smoothly. However I would like some service information if anyone could help, sorry I couldn’t find a model number. ThanksRed. Chrissaf
Possibly try this Service Sheet:http://www.lendonsmodelshop.co.uk------truncated URL
Tony57
HiThe servicing is done once in a whilst that is a pin prick of oil (sawing machine or simulor) on every rivet of the motion gear the same amount on all axels of the loco. I also put a drop of oil on the slide bars of the cylinders. The motor being a ringfield type a spot of oil on the 4 gear mounting points and the two bearings on each of the side faces of the motor and the axels. At present new carbon brushes and springs are readable avilable so get a few in to your spares box
Going Spare
Was the locomotive made in Great Britain or China? It will show one or the other on the loco and tender baseplates. Service sheet 131 (and 131A) is appropriate for GB product but you will need to go in to the 200-series service sheets - downloadable from this site - for Chinese versions, which were produced with 3-pole and 5-pole motor armatures.GS
Chrissaf
If a Chinese made and a 200 series service sheet, then try Service Sheets 204, 220 or 259.The link in my first reply was SS
Reddington
Hi, Thank you for the replys, I have checked and the locomotive was made in China. Does anyone also know where the lubrication points are? thanks Red
Chrissaf
......where two surfaces rub against each other i.e bearings and gears....pivot points on wheel couplings (steam locos) etc. The old adage is that if you can see the oil afterwards....you have put too much on. Proper model oil only. Not 3 in 1 or WD40.
morairamike
Late last year I fixed a Flying Scotsman tender drive for a friend. The number was R398 loco & R399 for the tender. The Hornby service sheet was 131.
