DCC ready HST upgraded to DCC works poorly on DC! Help.

I need help with a Hornby East Midlands HST R2948 (which was released DCC ready). A previous owner has DCC fitted the power car. It runs on my DC layout very poorly, so slow that almost not at all. I have other DCC fitted HST units which all run fine on my DC layout but not this one. Does anyone have any idea what may be the reason for this. I wondered if it was something to do with the wiring and opened the unit up. The maze of wires and electrical componentry inside left me very confused as I am not into DCC operations. As I am in NZ Hornby repair personel are rare specimens! Any thoughts.

Hi AntipodeanHST and welcome...

This model should have an 8 pin DCC plug so replacing it with a blanking plug should be fairly simple - both units will need one. This does not have to be a Hornby blanking plug and these should be available locally in NZ.

An other option would be to take it to a shop or friend with a DCC controller and get the decoders reset to factory standards - the CV settings from the previous owner may have been personalized.

Hi ellocoloco ....

Thanks for your help and advice. I think you may be right in that the decoder has been set to prevent use on a  DC system. So now, as I understand it, I need to remove the decoder and replace it with a blanking plug in both power and dummy car & thus solve the problem.
