This is really a 'what is your favourite loco?' question. We all have different tastes so to ask what we think is the best will get many different answers. What sort of locos do you like Louis, if you let us know we may be able to help you buy a good one.

It is difficult to choose an given Hornby model let alone engine so I would suggest some of the 0-6-0 tender locomotives that aren't immediately seen as popular mainstream models. For example the LNER J15 (if I could find an excuse for one of these I would) and the SR Q1.

Such superb models have the potential to appear on so many layouts; large or small and (in my humble opinion) are of greater modelling interest than (say) large mainline pacific locomotives of which so many types are produced.

The 2 BIL /2 HAL electric multiple units were also exciting models and it would be nice to see electric stock (both DC & AC) modelled from around the UK.

Clacton Mk1 sets or Glasgow Blue trains perhaps.....  Wink

My 'best' recent purchase was R3384 King George fitted with TTS sound decoder.......a very well detailed model.......available from Rails DCC ready as the TTS decoder removed at a bargain £89.50.........HB

Do you know who I am?..........No, but I'm sure Matron does!

OK but from any particular region?

Hornby under that name only make British locos. They do own companies that make foreign trains.

I think one of the best buys is the Hornby Crosti 9F. I have two.

The best Hornby trains are the UK Margate  made ones as you can find all the parts for them.

Harsh.

But very fair!  Laughing

A friend damaged a buffer on a relatively rare version of German 0-8-0 model. He was able to simply go online, order up a replacement and it arrived less than a fortnight later.........
