What is everyone doing this weekend with their model railways?

Depends on the weather outside! If it is decent, I'll be out with my r/c planes. If it's a howling gale - still - or pouring with rain, I'll probably be watching it find all the spare cat fur that the vacuum missed!

I've a couple of niggles to fix, some new pieces of track to paint rusty, a lot of ballast to lay when they are done, points to propel back and to, trees to plant, etc etc, oh, and a 'mountain' to grow!

Hello SOT, just for the record, you may recall my suggestion re Dunster station platform lights, I have acquired something similar on that auction site and shall be installing and wiring them. If you had in mind my suggestion about making something similar, don't bother, the ones I have are quite suitable.

What is everyone doing this weekend with their model railways?

I've got two Hornby 1970's made R.866S B12's to restore, a Lima class 09 to rebuild and a pile of empty Tri-ang and Hornby boxes to burn. Should could keep me busy.

Before you burn those boxes check out that well known auction site. People are selling, and buying empty Tri-ang and Hornby boxes.

I'll be busy tinkering  ;o)

I am replacing two points, the pin on the point motor of one came out?

I am painting the rest of my speed limit signs so will be adding them this weekend also.

HRMS are testing the 4 aspect signal issue and hope to get back to me by weekend also so lots going on.

I might even get chance to run a few trains LOL

I have been told I am going into the basement to sort out some of the boxes still packed up from moving house. Whilst the incentive is SWMBO wants it done it's also the first step in clearing the way for starting to build the layout in new home.

It would be sacriledge to burn any decent model railway items' boxes, SoT, especially if they are in anywhere decent condition. I see loads put up on eBay and bought by people who probably just have an item and wish to find an appropriate box for it. Although, are you perhaps talking about larger delivery boxes?

I may or may not be doing anything to my railway at the weekend, depending what sort of mood I'm in. Hang on, though....the missus is going on a charity aqua aerobics afternoon, so.......oh! Choices, choices!

I am building a Southern Region U1 2-6-0 using a Finecast kit on a VERY modified Triang R59 chassis. So far I have two halves of the boiler Araldited together, the chassis block cut down to size, a new cylinder block manufactured from an 'Albert Hall' cylinder block and the larger diameter driving wheels quartered and pressed on to the axles. (I have also managed to cut my finger on the saw while removing metal from the chassis block).

That's why I don't do that sort of thing, LC. Did you go to Casualty?

What ? With a cut finger?? I would have had to cut it OFF before I'd think about going to Casualty (I attended a whole lot of First Aid classes in my 40 years on the railway so I think I can put a plaster on it myself, by now) .

Our poor local A&E staff nowadays are far too busy dealing with drunks and other self inflicted ailments for me to want to go bothering them.

Fitting some drawer runners under my layout for a keyboard and mouse retractable board, then fitting & wiring 2 x ADS-8fx Decoders. Connect up the Computer/Monitor & assign points to decoders & RM. A few scenic areas need attention then when all that's done I've just got to clean all the track before running some trains. Might get it done by the end of February!

I'm hoping to have a fairly productive weekend, going to add shelving under the layout for loco and rolling stock storage, building a 6' long tunnel section on the layout, ballasting three lines about 12' each and hopefully I'll have some time to finish these card-kit platforms for the terminus station...
