My starter set was 'The Rambler' and I've since acquired a bunch of Hornby DC locos (most of which are old, none are DCC ready) and a mix of Hornby and Mainline stock. I've got two standard Hornby controllers (the small black ones) and enough track for two loops. So my question is, if I were to go DCC (probably with Railmaster), what would I need to do and how much would the infrastructure/software/controllers/chips cost? poliss Posted April 15, 2015 Share Posted April 15, 2015 If the locos have no socket, then you have to solder the decoder wires between the pick-ups and the motor. Sometimes it's very easy. Some are a little harder. Mainline can be hard if they are of the split chassis type.eLink + the Railmaster software cost £84.99 on this website. I presume you already have a laptop or tablet to run it on?For the track, you can either use the Hornby point clips on the points or, preferably, put extra power feeds after the points.Decoders cost from around £11.00 and upwards.
