New for 2013
In 2013 Hornby offers one of the most exciting selections of steam locomotives in the history of the brand. There will be no fewer than four totally new locomotives introduced throughout the year. Firstly, there is the much demanded GWR Star Class which some say is the missing link in the already outstanding Hornby GWR locomotive stable, plus later in the year a new Hall. Following on will be the much vaunted BR Standard Class 8, 'Duke of Gloucester', a model locomotive in demand but few thought would ever be produced. Finally we have the stunning Gresley designed LNER P2 2-8-2 (Mikado) as originally built and named 'Cock O’ the North'.
2013 will also see the coming together of the last remaining six LNER Gresley Class A4 locomotives in 'The Great Gathering', an occasion which will occur during July at the National Railway Museum, York. As part of the celebrations Hornby will be producing stunning examples of each of the locomotives exclusive to the connoisseur collector.
Over the last few years Hornby have majored on producing the larger diesel and electric locomotives as seen on the rail networks of Britain, the latest being the critically acclaimed Class 67 which features a wealth of detail including switchable day and night lighting, extremely fine grill work and a five pole motor that can power a train commensurate with the type of locomotive the 67 is! However private industry has for many years had their own locomotives and one such type makes a welcome appearance in the Hornby range this year and that is the Sentinel 4 wheel diesel shunter. This deceptively powerful class of locomotive can be seen on numerous UK industrial railways.
Also new and eagerly anticipated is the Southern Railway 2-BIL which will be available in both Southern Railway and BR (Class 401) variants. A model that is wonderful in appearance and equipped with amazing speed control – a must for any Southern based model railway layout.
