What would you like to see on the agenda?
The inaugural meeting of the new club will take place at 5.15 pm at the National Festival of Model Railways, Peterborough, on Saturday October 15.

It will be held in the Cambridge Suite, just by the event entrance. It's very easy to drive to the event, it's just by the A1 and there are free shuttle buses from Peterborough station.
Lets hope for a big turnout.

Not sure about the agenda, but I would like to tender an apology as it's a bit far for me to come in October.
It feels a little bit like owning a Betamax video recorder. You have a superior product (well it was when discontinued), but can't buy another one. Meanwhile you look on in envy at the wide choice available to users of VHS (or in our case - 12VDC or DCC).
I hope the inaugural meeting goes well.

Thanks Muzza
I am looking into the possibility of webcasting the meeting live so maybe you will be able to attend!
Ref your Betamax analogy, I would agree it would be similar if 90% of the Betamax owners had found the machines too difficult to use and kept them in storage and in good condition ready to feed demand in the 2nd hand market. That's where Hornby OO LS is today; a plentiful supply if you are happy to buy 2nd hand. Prices are still resonable too.
Whilst we at the club are keen to promote the long term availability there is plenty of opportunity to kick start demand by getting the moth-balled ones out and in happy use.
Maybe a meeting agenda item should be to persuade Hornby to back a trade-in scheme?Adrian CampbellPostman Prat (1346 posts) , 234 days ago 20:29 30 September 2011
Hi
Do you really think that the Hornby forum is the place to discuss the setting-up and running of a seperate organisation. Not to mention the matter of creatinjg your own locos.
In a similar fashion, is anyone interested in starting a B*chm@nn club??The light at the end of the tunnel is probably a train coming towards you !

Don't you think that you should have your own web site for this club? It seems a little unfair to use the Hornby forum to discuss producing your own live steam locos.

The Club does not compete with Hornby but aims to support the brand and encourage further production.
Hornby's still holds the rights to manufacture and the official line is that the product is 'on hold' pending an improvement in the global market.
Most of the models bought are mothballed largely because users found them difficult to control but if you can master it the entertainment rewards are immense. We are finding that by demonstrating we either get dormant models into use or bought by new and enlightened owners.
There are enough dormant models out there to prove to Hornby that, marketed and supported differently to before, it will be a winner.Adrian Campbellrgmichel (69 posts) , 231 days ago 21:58 03 October 2011
If you do stream the club meeting, please let us know so this enthusiast and others from the USA can look in. Thanks!

Hello Live Steamers,
I would really really really like to visit this weekend. And eventhough I live not as far as Muzza and rgmichel, I am afraid I will have to skip the first meeeting as well. I think it is time to move to the UK. Jobs anyone?
Hope you have a superweekend!
Michiel
