S5811 clerestory coaches

I have a couple of the above and wonder if anyone has pointers for fitting internal lighting. In particular fitting decent and robust pickups, wiring is the easy bit with LED strips. The wheels are insulated types. Access inside is fine.

Sounds like the old Tri-ang clerestories Hornby have re-introduced for such sets as the Anglian in recent years. S.5811 is a part number for these coaches.

Fitting pickups is very easy, replace the wheel sets with half insulated sets, with one set

having an insulated wheel one side the other set a live wheel the same side. Then make two 2mm wide contact strips out of 1.5mm phosphore bronze sheet with a 5mm square tab at one end, and a hole dilled in the square ends, then drill a tiny 0.5mm hole in the

bogie and fit the contact to bogie with a self tapping watchmakers screw making sure the thin end of the contact rubs lightly on an axle, and do the same with the other. The sqaure bits should also have a wire attached. There you have it a pickup syste, Tri-ang

used it the later class 35's, 37's and 31's.

The feed wires go up the middle of the bogies, the Tri-ang ones were held on by an S.5100 rivett, some later ones are clip fit but you can still fit the wires and run them up the middle of the bogie.
