In the spring of 2010 the renowned train operator East Coast made railway history when it launched a new “Flying Scotsman” express train service to operate between Edinburgh, Newcastle and London. Depar ting Edinburgh, Waverley each weekday at 05.40, stopping once at Newcastle and from there non-stop to London arriving at 09.40, the service achieves a running time of just 4.00 hours. This Hornby train pack includes a “Flying Scotsman” Class 91 and DVT together with 2 Mk.4 coaches each resplendent in the corporate colours of East Coast trains.

The BR Class 101 DMUs were constructed at Metro-Cammell at Washwood Heath, Birmingham from 1956 to 1959. Considered to be the most successful of that generation of BR multiple units the last of the Class were withdrawn at the end of 2003. The Hornby selection includes three examples ranging from the early period through to the 1980s plus a further example carrying the Strathclyde livery.
